Frequently Asked Questions
What is non-medical home care?
Non-medical home care provides assistance with daily activities that help seniors and individuals with disabilities remain safe, comfortable, and independent in their own homes. Services may include companionship, housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminders, transportation, personal care assistance, and respite care. Unlike home health care, non-medical home care does not include skilled nursing or medical treatment.

Can family members get paid to provide care?
In some cases, yes. Through Nebraska's Aged & Disabled Waiver program, qualifying individuals may have the option to receive care from an approved family member or friend. Eligibility requirements apply, and not all situations qualify. Helping Hands Stay at Home Care can help families understand available options and determine whether they may be eligible for waiver-supported services.

What is the Aged & Disabled Waiver?
The Aged & Disabled Waiver is a Nebraska Medicaid program that helps eligible seniors and individuals with disabilities receive care services in their own homes instead of moving to a nursing facility. The program may cover services that support independent living, including personal care, homemaker services, companionship, respite care, and other approved in-home supports.
