Dignity

Webster’s Definition: The quality or state of being worthy, honored, or esteemed.

Helping Hands Definition: Providing the best care possible by going into each client’s home and maintaining their independence. This includes giving showers and dressing clients and making them comfortable during these situations. Caregivers should encourage clients to use their independence so they can stay healthy and happy in their own home. This boosts their self esteem and reminds them that they are still able to do a lot despite their current circumstances. This maintains their dignity.

Many clients’ needs place them in vulnerable situations. When it comes to being in someone’s house and helping them, shower or dressing themselves, caregivers are expected to save them their dignity by making them comfortable while still helping as much as possible.
